IN A WORLD WHERE SUFFERING AND
AGENCY CAN BE UNDERSTOOD IN THE
WORKINGS OF RACE, GENDER,
ETHNICITY, CLASS, ABILITY, AND
SEXUALITY, CAN AND SHOULD WE ALSO
THINK ABOUT THE SUFFERING AND
AGENCY OF ANIMALS? IF WE DO, ARE WE
INVISIBILIZING OR FLATTENING HUMAN
INEQUALITIES? WE WILL, AS MUCH AS
POSSIBLE, CENTER THE WORK OF
SCHOLARS AND ACTIVISTS WHO WORK AT
THE INTERSECTIONS OF ANIMAL STUDIES
AND HUMAN ORIENTED CRITICAL AREA
STUDIES. THIS CLASS WILL MEET WITH
FRENCH 590, A GRADUATE SEMINAR, AND
WILL BE CONDUCTED AT THAT LEVEL.
INSTRUCTOR APPROVAL REQUIRED FOR
