THIS COURSE INVITES STUDENTS TO
CRITICALLY EXPLORE AND CONDUCT
ETHNOGRAPHIC RESEARCH. WE BEGIN
WITH CONVERSATIONS ABOUT RESEARCH
HISTORIES AND ETHICS, FOCUSING ON
THE COLONIAL FOUNDATIONS OF
ANTHROPOLOGY AND RELATED
DISCIPLINES. WE THEN CONSIDER
ALTERNATIVE/DECOLONIAL RESEARCH
PRACTICES, AND EXPLORE MULTIPLE
FORMS OF ETHNOGRAPHIC ENGAGEMENT,
SUCH AS MULTISPECIES, SENSORIAL,
AND MULTI-MODAL WORK. WITH
FACULTY GUIDANCE AND PEER
SUPPORT, STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE
OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE
DIFFERENT FORMS OF ETHNOGRAPHIC
PRACTICE, AND TO WORK
INDIVIDUALLY AND COLLABORATIVELY
ON A FINAL PROJECT.
