COLONIALISM, CAPITALISM, AND THE
STATE? ALTERNATIVELY, IS IT A
CRUCIBLE FOR SOCIAL CHANGE AND
RESISTANCE? IS IT ALL OF THESE
THINGS? CAN IT BE SOMETHING ELSE?
THIS COURSE EXAMINES THE UNIVERSITY
AS SIMULTANEOUSLY A CRIME SCENE, A
SITE FOR HEALING, AND A PLACE FOR
TRANSFORMATION. THIS COURSE ENGAGES
WITH THE WORK OF SCHOLARS ACROSS
THE ARTS AND HUMANTIES, WITH
SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE
CONTRIBUTIONS OF BLACK, INDIGENOUS,
AND OTHER CRITICAL INTELLECTUAL
TRADITIONS.
Catalog Description:
Considers different ways of learning, exploring, and knowing in the context of the historical development, social context, and impact of universities in general and of the University of Washington in particular. Includes reflective workshops on choosing areas of study (majors) in collaboration with Undergraduate Advising.
