Syllabus Description:

CHID 498: Experimental Futures: World Building in Science, Art, and Literature

This class uses the concept “experimental futures” to investigate the role of creating imaginary futures in science fiction, immersive art, and scientific modelling. Through the intensive study of different immersive worlds, students will be encouraged to think about the relationship between speculation and critical practice and activism in relationship to theory. Students will be especially encouraged to investigate how world building functions in different disciplines and they will be encouraged to develop their own experimental future.

Each colloquium examines a different subject or problem from a comparative framework.
