EXPERIMENTAL FUTURES: WORLD BUILDING IN SCIENCE, ART, AND LITERATURE: VLPA CREDIT THIS CLASS USES THE CONCEPT "EXPERIMENTAL FUTURES" TO INVESTIGATE THE ROLE OF CREATING IMAGINARY FUTURES IN SCIENCE FICTION, IMMERSIVE ART, AND SCIENTIFIC MODELLING. THROUGH THE INTENSIVE STUDY OF DIFFERENT IMMERSIVE WORLDS, STUDENTS WILL BE ENCOURAGED TO THINK ABOUT HOW SPECULATION RELATES TO CRITICAL PRACTICE AND HOW ACTIVISM RELATES TO IMAGINATION. STUDENTS WILL BE ESPECIALLY ENCOURAGED TO INVESTIGATE HOW WORLD BUILDING FUNCTIONS DIFFERENTLY IN DIFFERENT DISCIPLINES AND THEY WILL COMPLETE THE CLASS BY DESIGNING THEIR OWN EXPERIMENTAL FUTURE.
