AFGHANISTAN BEYOND THE HEADLINES (AH, SSC, W, DIV) __ AFGHANISTAN IS A PLACE OFTEN SPOKEN ABOUT BUT RARELY HEARD FROM. THAT YOU ARE TAKING THIS CLASS SHOWS YOUR INTELLECTUAL WILL TO REVERSE THIS PATTERN. THIS COURSE SITUATES AFGHANISTAN IN ITS HISTORICAL, POLITICAL, LITERARY, RELIGIOUS, ARTISTIC, AND SOCIAL CONTEXTS SO THAT STUDENTS MAY DEVELOP NUANCED, GROUNDED PERSPECTIVES ON A COUNTRY THAT DEFIES ALL EASY STEREOTYPES.
Catalog Description:
Introduces students to thinking about social, cultural, and political issues of current relevance as objects of historical inquiry and about the role of historical argumentation in contemporary public debate. Offered: jointly with HSTCMP 111.
