THIS SEMINAR EXPLORES THE
INTERSECTIONS OF QUEER AND
INDIGENOUS STUDIES, ENGAGING WITH
CRITICAL TEXTS THAT INTERROGATE
IDENTITY, SOVEREIGNTY, SETTLER
COLONIALISM, AND DECOLONIZATION. WE
WILL EXAMINE HOW INDIGENOUS AND
QUEER THEORISTS CHALLENGE NORMATIVE
FRAMEWORKS OF GENDER, SEXUALITY, AN
BELONGING. STUDENTS WILL REFINE
THEIR ANALYTICAL SKILLS THROUGH
CLOSE READING, DISCUSSION CO-
LEADERSHIP, PEER EVALUATION, GROUP
CONVERSATIONS, AND REFLECTIVE
WRITING.
Catalog Description:
Explores the contemporary cultural and political transformations advanced by Indigenous peoples and their advocates around the world. Examines the concept of indigeneity, the cultural politics of Indigenous mobilization, and the effects of international development policies on Indigenous communities.
