SONGLINES (SSC) ___ THIS COURSE GIVES STUDENTS AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE DIVERSE COMMUNITIES IN SEATTLE AND BEYOND THROUGH SCHOLARLY AND CREATIVE PRACTICE. THE COURSE INCLUDES KEY READINGS BY THINKERS FROM ANTHROPOLOGY AND GEOGRAPHY, ENCOURAGING STUDENTS TO CRITICALLY ENGAGE WITH IDEAS OF TRAVEL, TOURISM, AND PLACE. COMMITTED TO TWO-EYED SEEING, STUDENTS IN THE COURSE WILL BE INVITED TO BRING TOGETHER INDIGENOUS AND WESTERN WAY OF KNOWING TO ARTICULATE PROJECTS THROUGH METHODS IN THE DIGITAL HUMANITIES. STUDENTS WILL CREATE PROJECTS USING AUGMENTED REALITY (AR) WITH GEOLOCATIVE AUDIO AND OTHER MEDIA TO TELL PERSONAL AND COMMUNAL STORIES. NO PROGRAMMING OR AUDIO PRODUCTION EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Catalog Description:
Explores the contemporary cultural and political transformations advanced by Indigenous peoples and their advocates around the world. Examines the concept of indigeneity, the cultural politics of Indigenous mobilization, and the effects of international development policies on Indigenous communities. Offered: jointly with JSIS A 280.
