DEMONS, POSSESSIONS, EXORCISMS ___ IN THIS SEMINAR COURSE WE WILL EXPLORE THE NATURE AND FUNCTION OF DEMONS (AND ASSOCIATED SUPERNATURAL BEINGS, SUCH AS SPIRITS, GHOSTS, AN WITCHES) FROM THE ANCIENT WORLD TO MODERN CONTEXTS, ATTENDING TO THE DIVERSITIES OF TRADITIONS, PRACTICES, AND BELIEFS CONCERNING THEM. READINGS WILL COVER A BROAD RANGE OF DISCIPLINES TO FACILITATE AN INTERDISCIPLINARY CONVERSATION ABOUT THE TOPICS OF DEMONIC POSSESSION AND EXORCISM IN HISTORY, RELIGION, PSYCHOLOGY/PSYCHOANALYSIS AND POPULAR CULTURE.
