"BAD ART" (VLPA, I&S) WHILE BAD ART IS COMMONLY ASSUMED TO BE SIMPLY ART LACKING ARTISTIC SKILL AND COMPLEXITY, THIS COURSE WILL APPROACH BAD ART AS SOMETHING MORE THAN A VALUE SYSTEM. AS A TERM WE WILL TAKE IT TO REFER TO A HOST OF ACTIVITIES AND PHENOMENA RIVEN WITH CONTRADICTIONS AND MISUNDERSTANDINGS. UNAPPRECIATED ARTWORKS IN ONE ERA, MAY, GIVEN THE RIGHT SET OF ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL CIRCUMSTANCES, BECOME CELEBRATED AND HIGHLY VALUED IN ANOTHER PERIOD.
Catalog Description:
Investigates the theoretical and practical problems of interpretation and knowledge production in a topic chosen by the instructor. Primarily for majors. Prerequisite: CHID 101.
