SITUATED AT THE CROSSROADS OF EAST AND WEST, GEORGIAN CINEMA OFFERS DIRECTORS WHO BELONG TO FAMILY CLANS, YET ALSO EMBRACE INNOVATIVE, WESTERN LOOKING TRENDS, THOSE WHO CHAFED AT STALIN AS A FELLOW GEORGIAN, CREATING AN AVANT-GARDE, CRITICAL CINEMA WITHIN THE SOVIET UNION, NEW, YOUNG DIRECTORS GRAPPLING WITH CURRENT SOCIAL TURMOIL.
