GEORGIAN CINEMA, FILMS OF RESISTANCE AND DESIRE (I&S) --- IN THIS COURSE WE WILL EXPLORE THE CINEMA OF GEORGIA, A MAGICAL, MYSTERIOUS, AND COMPLEX COUNTRY. SITUATED AT THE CROSSROADS OF EAST AND WEST, GEORGIAN CINEMA OFFERS DIRECTORS WHO BELONG TO FAMILY CLANS, YET ALSO EMBRACE INNOVATIVE, WESTERN LOOKING TRENDS, THOSE WHO CHAFED AT STALIN AS A FELLOW GEORGIAN, CREATING AN AVANT-GARDE, CRITICAL CINEMA WITHIN THE SOVIET UNION, NEW, YOUNG DIRECTORS GRAPPLING WITH CURRENT SOCIAL TURMOIL.
