CARCERAL AFTERLIVES OF SLAVERY (VLPA) --- THIS COURSE EXPLORES HOW SCHOLARS, ACTIVISTS, AND INCARCERATED PEOPLE HAVE THEORIZED CONNECTIONS BETWEEN SLAVERY AND INCARCERATION IN THE UNITED STATES. TRAVERSING A RANGE OF TOPICS IN CRITICAL PRISON STUDIES AND SLAVERY STUDIES, IT TRACKS THE LONG HISTORY OF CONTEMPORARY CARCERAL FORMATIONS, OR THE EMERGENCE OF WHAT SOME THINKERS HAVE CALLED THE PRISON INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX
