CHID Student Research Awards
CHID offers up to three awards of $250 each to support CHID majors' and minors' Senior Thesis or research projects. Funds may be used to cover full or partial expenses for equipment, special projects, research, or travel. Awards will be provided based on financial need and the overall quality of the project.

With generous support from Professor Emeritus John Toews and his wife, Eleanor, CHID offers up to four $300 awards to current CHID majors or minors and CHID-affiliated UW graduate students to support the following activities:
Graduate School Expenses
CHID will reimburse costs for graduate school applications, graduate exam preparation classes, and/or admissions exams (such as the GRE, LSAT, MCAT).

Conference Travel Assistance
Undergraduate and CHID-affiliated graduate students can apply for funds to help defray costs of travel to conferences, workshops, and other learning opportunities.

The Colin Wang Memorial Scholarship offers one annual $1,000 award for a UW undergraduate student who studies abroad on a CHID-sponsored program. This scholarship is funded by the family of Colin Wang and the CHID Program. Colin participated in the Netherlands and Romania UW study abroad programs during the summer of 2014. As a Sociology major, Colin’s course of study considered the multiple ways that cultures become racialized, but he approached this work in a unique way. As an aspiring comedian, Colin believed that humor was the key to drawing people together. His work abroad utilized humor as an effective tool for shedding light on problems of race and racial identity in society.
