Digital media can make a huge contribution to building and breaking ideas and stereotypes. The ways that society has treated disability and disabled people is problematic. One way we can start to confront this reality is to examine the messages we receive about disability on a daily basis. This quarter, we’ll be doing just that. We’ll pair modern representations of disability in digital media with the work of a range of modern disability activists to dissect how these depictions connect to our perceptions and how those perceptions translate into actions.
