How do societies address historical atrocities or injustices and make amends to those affected? This Focus Group will center around the truth commission, an official body often created by the state to reveal past wrongdoings and discern methods for redress. Using fiction, film, and art alongside academic works, students will learn about the challenges of reckoning with political violence, racial violence, and genocide in South Africa, Canada, countries in Latin America, and the United States.
