What are the wide and varied ways humans interact with animals in the United States? From animals in agriculture and science, to the use of animals for entertainment and companionship, animals are ubiquitous in our lives and yet often their involvement is not visible to us. How can we think about these hidden interactions? What is the experience of the nonhuman animal? Each week we will survey different aspects of the human relationship with nonhuman animals and discuss their moral and ethical implications. During the final classes, we will discuss advocacy strategies from the animal protection movement including humane education and animal law.
