"Artivismo: Resistance is Existence" is led by two Xicana artivistas with the purpose of exploring with others the ideologies of what it means to be an artist in the non-traditional sense. Come explore and learn how to break free from the traditional forms found in art classes and schooling by expressing yourself freely. We will be covering r(e)volutionary art movements, "artivism", decolonization and the list goes on through the expansion of different art forms in a decolonial space with an emphasis on Chican@ art, but also exploring the intersectionality of our different identities.
Readings will include Borderlands: La Frontera by Gloria Anzaldua, Decolonizing Methodologies by Linda Tuhiwai Smith, and A Xicana Codex of Changing Consciousness: Writings, 2000-2010 by Cherrie Moraga.
This focus group will collaboratively create a Zine on Artivism (Artivismo) for the final project.
