The Interdisciplinary Writing Studio (located in Smith Hall 113B) offers tutoring sessions for students working on projects in AES, AIS, CHID GEOG, and GWSS. Our tutors have experience writing and tutoring in these departments and can work with you on all aspects of writing and research from brainstorming and planning, through writing and revising. All kinds of projects are welcome: reading responses; reflections; creative pieces; research papers, literature reviews; position statements; fellowship, job, or graduate school applications; and more! We can talk with you about drafts, research strategies, disciplinary expectations, and finding your own voice in writing.
Schedule an appointment below; or contact the director Caitlin Palo at iwsdir@uw.edu for more information.
Current Tutors:
Adryenne Patterson is a senior undergraduate student majoring in American Ethnic Studies and minoring in Education, Learning and Societies. Her career goal is to eventually become an adviser at the community college level that will work with undeserved and underrepresented populations in finding alternative methods for students to accomplish their educational goals. Adryenne's favorite time to work with writers is when they are in the preliminary stages of the writing process because she likes to discuss ideas and to watch them as they transform and manifest into new ideas and ways of thinking. In her free time, Adryenne is a homebody.
Dewi Ali is a junior in Political Science and Linguistics working towards a concentration in International Relations. Aside from tutoring, she volunteers with UW's language exchange program and mentors incoming freshman and transfers with an RSO. Of the phases in academic writing, she feels most familiar with translating ideas into structured arguments, but most of all she enjoys getting to know each student's personal writing style. Outside of campus, she spends much of her time looking for new ways to indulge her interest in creative writing, music and watercolor painting.
