Blogging the Faroe Islands with CHID

Submitted by Naraelle Kristin Hohensee on

CHID Faroe Islands student Alaia D'Alessandro is blogging about her experience on our summer study abroad program! She says:

"I study Ethnomusicology and Comparative History of Ideas at the University of Washington. Phonic Earth is a travel show that explores the world through sound and music.  I believe that music is a very intimate way of examining civilizations and customs, because everyone has their own relationship with sound."

Alaia won't just be documenting her own personal experiences. She has already arranged interviews with two of the Faroe Islands' most influential musicians, Eivør Pálsdóttir and Kristian Black, and will also be live streaming the major Faroese music festival, the G! Festival! As always, our students are making waves across the globe ...

You can follow Alaia on her sonic journeys at http://www.phonicearth.com/
